The Artist: MARTINA MERLINI

Bologna 1986

Her work rests on an incessant search for synchronicity between material and form. Each composition has a musical sense, a rhythm, a cadence and sometimes a dissonance in which materials desperately seek their almost archetypal form.

Martina Merlini's position is multidisciplinary, from paper or wood work; from spray, wax or acrylic to its transition to the wall. Sculptures and installations, try to cross borders, always take a step forward. An almost obsessive desire to establish or restore, redefine the notion of "limit" between the natural and the artificial, between flow and immobility, between the rational and the irrational.

Her sculptures also speak of the artisanal and the evidence of human presence. There is a deep sense of fragility, of the provisional. The non-sequential geometry allows the establishment of small private urban narratives that subtly evoke a disproportionate Mimmo Rotella.
